TODAY, July 23, the president of the Susan B. Anthony List, Marjorie Dannenfelser, will participate in a live webcast with an all-star lineup of pro-life leaders!

As you may or may not have been hearing, powerful abortion lobbyists and pro-abortion members of Congress are pushing taxpayer funded abortion as a part of the proposed $1,000,000,000,000.00 health care package. We are already funding abortion providers through the reversal of the Mexico City Policy, but you could be paying for abortions in the United States on a massive scale.

Last year, Planned Parenthood (the nation’s largest abortion chain) received more than $350 million of taxpayer money. They ended the year with a $112 million surplus. This means that our tax dollars are the only thing keeping Planned Parenthood a profitable operation. And now they want even more!

In this webcast, you will learn exactly what is at stake, how it is happening, what we are doing about it, and how you can help. This is one of the most crucial battles in the 36 years since Roe v. Wade. Now, pro-life and pro-family organizations are uniting to fight against this massive assault on life and conscience.

Here is a list (in alphabetical order) of all the pro-life leaders who will be taking part in this 70-minute, live, one-time only webcast. You will even be able to ask questions during the Q&A session!

•    David Bereit, Founder and National Director of 40 Days for Life
•    Marjorie Dannenfelser, President of the Susan B. Anthony List
•    Kristen Day, Executive Director of Democrats for Life
•    Melinda Delahoyde, President of CareNet crisis pregnancy centers
•    Day Gardner, Founder and President of the National Black Pro-Life Union
•    Peggy Hartshorn, President of Heartbeat International
•    Kristan Hawkins, Executive Director of Students for Life
•    Mike Huckabee, former governor and presidential candidate; host of the Fox News show Huckabee
•    Douglas Johnson, Legislative Director of the National Right to Life Committee

•    Congressman Chris Smith, Republican from New Jersey’s 4th district
•    Wendy Wright, President of Concerned Women for America
•    Dr. Charmaine Yoest, President & CEO of Americans United for Life

You will need an Internet connection to listen to the webcast and ask questions, and the webcast will work with dial-up connections too. However, you will need to register for the webcast to be able to listen. If you cannot listen at 9 pm Eastern on Thursday, you can register and a full recording will be available shortly after the webcast concludes.

View Article  DANNENFELSER: The Abortion Administration

SBA List President Marjorie Dannenfelser has a commentary in this week's issue of The Weekly Standard, "The Abortion Administration."  In it she addresses President Obama's support for the abortion agenda and the growing record of anti-life policies pursued by his Administration.  She takes an important look at the upcoming debates on taxpayer funding for abortion in DC and health care reform.

Here's a sneak peek:

In his first week in office, President Obama issued an executive order overturning the Reagan-era Mexico City regulations, which had prohibited American foreign aid from going to organizations that finance overseas abortions. Just a few weeks later, the Gallup organization revealed that the executive order was the single most unpopular action taken by the president during his honeymoon period. At a time when American families had experienced an average 25 percent decline in their net worth, it would appear that increasing the net worth of foreign abortionists was not high on their to-do list.

Their reaction was even less surprising in the light of another recent Gallup finding: For the first time in over 10 years, voters who describe themselves as pro-life have taken the lead (by 51 to 42 percent) over voters who describe themselves as pro-choice. Even this understates antiabortion sentiment, since many people who describe themselves as pro-choice, when probed, favor restrictions on abortion that the present Supreme Court, with its five members who voted for or favor Planned Parenthood v. Casey, would never allow.

Given the breadth of his domestic agenda, the president might want to make a midcourse correction on abortion. Why highlight an issue where the bulk of the American people, including a sizable share of the 52.9 percent of the electorate who voted for him, are either going in the other direction or have severe qualms?

But by now, nearly six months in, the bottom line for Barack Obama is clear. After making a few polite noisesabout finding "common ground" with pro-lifers, his administration has shown zero interest in doing so. Instead, the Obama agenda is to weave government-backed abortion into the fabric of American life and make it a far more integral part of domestic and foreign policy than ever before.

These pro-life women leaders came together to call on Congress to keep American taxpayer dollars out of abortionist's coffers in DC, and elsewhere!  Here are Congresswoman Virginia Foxx's strong remarks:

“Over the past several months, the Obama administration has begun to erode the pro-life protections in place to keep taxpayer dollars from paying for abortions.  It started with the repeal of the Mexico City policy, which restricted taxpayer money from funding groups providing abortions overseas.

“Now the Obama Administration is trying to bring taxpayer funded abortions back to Washington, DC by changing the so-called 'Dornan Amendment,' which restricts publically funded abortions in DC.    “DC has one of the most troubling track records in the nation when it comes to its abortion policies.  Not only is DC part of a notorious group of only three other states that allow minors to receive abortions, but it also has one of the highest abortion rates in the county.

“It is no secret that DC’s lax abortion policies draw women to DC abortion clinics from other states. Repealing the Dornan Amendment would mean allowing DC to use tax dollars to foot the bill for abortions for minors, and potentially for minors from other states.

“Polls have shown a majority of Americans do not support taxpayer-funded abortion.  Join me in calling on Congress to preserve the Dornan Amendment and keep your tax dollars from paying for abortions—a practice that violates the conscience of the millions of Pro-Life Americans.”

View Article  Late-Term Abortionist George Tiller Killed
Late-Term Abortionist George Tiller was killed at his church in Wichita, Kansas this morning by an unidentified assailant.  The Susan B. Anthony List swiftly condemned the violence, issuing a statement by President Marjorie Dannenfelser:

The Susan B. Anthony List condemns this anti-life act in the strongest of terms. The heart of the pro-life movement is one founded in love. Without this driving powerful center no justice can possibly be achieved.  Authentic progress in women’s rights has always encompassed the protection of human rights of every person across the board. The rights of one human being can never be honored by diminishing or ignoring the rights of another. This week as we gather for our annual June Tea event, themed Love Lets Live, we will lift up George Tiller's loved ones in prayer.”

George Tiller was shot and killed by an unidentified assailant shortly after 10 a.m. at Reformation Lutheran Church (ELCA) in Wichita, Kansas this morning. The 67-year-old was one of the few U.S. physicians who still performed late-term abortions. He had previously survived a 1993 shooting outside his clinic.

Quin Hillyer of the American Spectator has a fantastic pieceabout abortion policy today.  He also attended the SBA List Campaign for Life Dinner last week and speaks highly of it in his column:

In response to the aggressive anti-life moves by the Obama administration, the Susan B. Anthony List, which is dedicated to electing pro-life women to office, had an utterly smashing success at its big annual fundraising dinner March 12, with tables crowded so closely together in a hotel ballroom that there was barely room to walk. It was one sign that the pro-life community is mobilized and on high alert.

*snip*

With an administration that seems determined to push the outer limits by ignoring even the rough national consensus on reasonable restrictions such as parental notice, it's time to say that it's a good thing that groups like the Susan B. Anthony List are fighting back. It's a good thing because -- deep breath -- abortion generally ought to be illegal.

Hillyer goes on to stress the importance of passing laws that protect the most vulnerable among us -- unborn children.

View Article  Hope for Pro-Lifers

Susan B. Anthony List President Marjorie Dannenfelser published a commentary in this week’s Human Events that examines how the pro-abortion actions of the Obama administration may be the tipping point for the pro-life movement.

A few of her more compelling passages that link the pro-life movement to other human rights movements of the past:

"Successful human and civil rights movements share at least one thing in common:  someone on the other side overreached.  Some individual or institution took a step in the wrong direction that public opinion could not sustain.  This is true of the abolitionist and women's suffrage movements.  And it appears that it will soon be true for the pro-life movement."

"It is one thing to take a 'pro-choice' position on an issue, allowing others to engage in activity even if one is personally opposed.  It is quite another to be forced to facilitate activity one opposes in conscience.  Actions such as those can galvanize public opinion and result in the changes the public -- not the activists -- really want."

And when it comes the Obama Administration's liberal abortion policies:

“President Obama may very well be supplying an ‘overreach’ moment for the right to life movement by attempting to require taxpayers to fully fund abortions in federal programs and the domestic and international abortion industries themselves.  This ‘abortion industry bailout’ during a time of acute economic crisis is a dramatic overreach that far outstrips citizens' public opinion.”

“Obama's overreach gives pro-life human rights advocates in the mold of Susan B. Anthony reason to hope. A turning point for protecting the unborn could well be on the horizon.”

“Our loss is heaven’s gain with the passing of Paul Weyrich – it makes me jealous of heaven. The virtues contained there are what he effectively advanced with incredibly infectious tenacity his whole life. He encouraged so many of us to follow his lead and was truly a force of nature in politics. America is a better place for bearing witness to this remarkable citizen leader.”

SBA List President Marjorie Dannenfelser offers her frank assessment of where the pro-life cause goes from here.  Read her interview with Kathryn Lopez on National Review Online!

Key Excerpt:

Lopez: Did you ever give any thought to what Susan B. Anthony might have thought about Sarah Palin?

Dannenfelser: Yes, thought Susan B. Anthony did not have children, she had a core that embraced all human rights and human dignity. She stood up for rights for slaves, women, and unborn children. She lived consistently, as does Palin. She lived with backbone and determination and confidence. So does Palin. She was castigated by most, then many, then just a handful for pricking the consciences of the elites. So too Palin. She never backed down from her fight, and even though she died before she saw women’s suffrage, she never wavered. When you see Palin’s unblinking, confident, firm-jawed statements about the unborn and children with special needs and protection of women in Muslim nations, you can detect a lot of Susan B. Anthony’s spirit.
