A poll conducted by NBC/the Wall Street Journal finds that Obama is enjoying a 55%-32% lead among women while Sen. McCain heads Obama 55%-35% among white men (36% of the electorate in 2004). McCain is also favored by suburban white women (10% of the electorate) 44-38%.  Overall the poll found Obama ahead of McCain by a mere 6 percentage points (47%-41%).  Adding Hillary to the Democratic ticket boosted Obama’s lead by only 3 more points (51%-42%) over a potential McCain/Romney ticket.

Twenty-two percent of respondents indicated that adding Clinton as VP would make them more inclined to vote for Obama while a staggering 21% said it would make them less likely to vote for the Illinois Senator showing that a “power merge” between Obama and Clinton may not be as lethal for the GOP as originally thought.  Senator Clinton suspended her presidential campaign on June 7th  and endorsed Obama.  The NBC poll was conducted from June 6th-9th and has a margin of error of +/- 3.1%.
