It was a well known fact that Joe Biden's mouth had the potential to get the Democrats in trouble. Well it's happened folks, Joe Biden has vaulted over the lines of appropriate political discourse by attacking Sarah Palin's support of stem cells and children with developmental disabilities. Instead of summarizing what Joe said, lets just get his direct quote:
"I hear all this talk about how the Republicans are going to work in
dealing with parents who have both the joy, because there's joy to it
as well, the joy and the difficulty of raising a child who has a
developmental disability, who were born with a birth defect. Well guess
what folks? If you care about it, why don't you support stem cell
research?"
How dare Joe Biden declare hypocrisy on stem cells! The Palin's and many other brave families across the country have lovingly embraced children with developmental disabilities. Sarah Palin's advocacy for children with special needs and their families is not a political stance, its a common sense stance. It's not a stance rooted in opinion polls or focus groups. It is a position derived from her own sacrifice, joy, and love as a parent of a special needs child. Politics could use less of Joe Biden's cynicism and opportunistic attacks.
It is also incredibly unfair of Joe Biden to infer that Sarah Palin is against stem cell research. Sarah Palin, like most, is against embryonic stem cell research, a type of research that destroys human life and has no track record of scientific success. I am sure Sarah Palin, like most of us, would embrace new scientific cures from adult stem cells or other forms of research that uphold the dignity of human life. When will Joe Biden and Barack Obama wake up and get this? When will they stop their unfair attacks on the opponents of embryonic stem cell research? When will they embrace common ground and work toward funding adult stem cell research, which has shown great opportunity? And most importantly for the next two months, when will they stop trying to denigrate the dignity of Sarah Palin's witness?

"If you care about it, why don't you support stem cells?" Wow, Biden has hit a new low.
The Palins' are not alone in their stance on stem cell research. A famous example is Joni Erickson-Tada who was paralyzed in a diving accident as a teenager. In spite of the alleged benefits stem cell research might have in her case, she is staunchly opposed to the destruction of human life. Today she advocates on behalf of the disabled but unlike folks on the left, she does not push stem-cell research. http://www.joniandfriends.org/ Re: Biden Attacks Palin's Outreach to Special Needs Children

As a physician and a mother of two, I emphatically support Gov. Palin. All life must be respected. It is only with the respect of every human life that we can begin to make strides in protecting children from abuse, neglect, and support those with disabilities. Abortion allows all children to be reduced to object status without rights or protection. Thus, by recognizing human life at conception, we recognize and affirm the value of life and then can begin the process of protecting, supporting and affirming each life with its unique challenges. Lastly, there are no guarantees in life. Each of us will be faced with challenges: some will be physical, others psychological, others spiritual. Hopefully, we will not be asked to die because our affliction is not politically correct.

One thing that needs to be talked about in the stem cell debate is this: the promising research developments for stem cell therapies that *do not* involve embryo destruction.
So, if anyone reading this is pregnant, especially (but not exclusively) if you are a person of color (grievously underrepresented in medical research and treatment in the areas of tissue and organ donation)...please consider donation the umbilical cord blood. It may either save a life through transplant, or save lives through nonviolent stem cell research. I have some resources gathered here for anyone who wants to consider cord blood donation (or any other kind of tissue or organ donation): http://nonviolentchoice.blogspot.com/2007/07/organ-and-tissue-donation-how-you-can.html Thank you! Certainly this is no surprise--as noted, Biden's mouth has gotten him in trouble before. He was on "Meet the Press" on Sunday with Tom Brokaw, and it just amazes me how he gets the kit glove treatment and no one really questions it (it seems).
If nothing else, Sarah Palin's candidacy has brought new attention to the life issue, and thus gives FFL members the chance to dispel a lot of pro-abortion myths that, again amazingly, are still out there. The question Brokaw posed to Biden was "When do you think life begins?" Which of course is the wrong question completely and totally frames the issue incorrectly. Of course Biden gave the old canard "personally opposed, but" speech. While his religious beliefs and personal, private thought says life begins at conception, he wouldn't "impose" that on anyone else. Please, I don't need to open the Bible or the Koran to know what every science textbook will show and what everyone already knows--that every individual human being begins life at the moment of conception, and that every abortion ends a human life. The question isn't "when does life begin?" but at what point should the law protect human life? Are we willing to exclude anyone in the human family from the mantle of protection based upon their stage of development or condition of dependency? As I'm sure other FFL members would attest, this is only one of many examples that have been voiced in recent days--we need to be out in force to set the record straight on so many misunderstandings and falsehoods out there. On the other hand, coverage of Palin as a prolife feminist, whether friendly, unfriendly, or neutral, neglects something very important.
While there are prolife feminists who identify as conservatives, we cover the political spectrum. Many of us are liberals or leftists...Just visit the Nonviolent Choice Directory and Blog to see this. When the full spectrum of prolife feminist political affiliations is not openly and consistently mentioned and discussed, this reinforces the myth that prolife feminism is some kind of "religious-zealot right-wing fakery" and not something worthy of respectful attention and engagement. It is much harder to dismiss prolife feminism if someone firmly in your own part of the political spectrum professes it. So please, everyone, when you talk about prolife feminism, mention those of us who are anything but conservatives, too! Re: Biden Attacks Palin's Outreach to Special Needs Children

Payday Loan Advocate

With our economy falling behind, the war on terror, pork barreling legislation, corruption, and criminal activity on the rise, payday loans should be the last thing on politicians’ minds. Yet, for some reason, high profile politicians like Obama are focusing on this issue. Some states have banned them, such as Georgia and North Carolina, and more are in the process. Instead of fixing the important issues, they are trying to take out the payday loan industry for personal and political gain. Payday loans are simply for short term financial assistance for the all-American family to cover some cost that wasn’t budgeted or an emergency that they couldn’t pay for at that moment. They provide help to citizens during these financially troubling times with loans that the government otherwise couldn’t provide themselves. Stop the potential loss of thousands of jobs and the loss of a viable financial option by voicing your opinion to the legislature, before a nationwide ban becomes in effect.

When will the Republican Party separate the abortion issue from stem cell research in a way that even stern Democrats can understand. Babies do not have to be aborted for stem research to thrive. We have an indefinate supply of stem cells that could be procured daily from the cord blood of live infants. We don't need to abort babies to provide stem cells for research! In situations where the parents have not already decided to bank stem cells themselves, these stem cells could be procured and used for the benefit of all. What we need is a National Stem Cell Bank with regulations and guidelines on procuring these often discarded and destroyed stem cells . Think of the number of babies born daily in the U.S. and the number of cord blood stem cells that are destroyed daily as mediacl waste!!!

Last Tuesday, October 7th, the second presidential debate that took place in Belmont University in Nashville attracted over 60 million viewers. Instead of coming to a more firm deliberation on how to improve the well-being of the United States and all of the American citizens who inhabit it, more questions have raised about how exactly these presidential candidates intend to better our obliterated economy. Frequent questions asked about the $700 billion Wall Street bailout were left unanswered. People are upset and even fear that it would not work and are in search of reassurance and a solution. It seems like their main focus is basically to criticize each other in hopes of rounding up a larger number of followers than the other. Their proposed intentions are based on completely irrelevant issues. Let’s take Barak Obama’s stance on payday advance lenders for an instance. He categorized them as “predatory lending”- effectively sanctioning the industry. This is not an issue that is downheartedly affecting our economy. As the real economic problems are ignored, they spend more time finding and using the pettiest affairs to add spice to the banking production.
