Edward Erin, or the "Poison Doctor" as he has been dubbed by British papers, was convicted yesterday of putting abortifacient drugs in the drinks of his pregnant mistress. The Times Online reports:

[When] he received the news that Bella Prowse was pregnant...he pleaded with her to have an abortion, assuring her that he loved her and they could have children in the future.

After some prevarication, Ms Prowse refused to go along with the abortion, explaining that it would be too traumatic. In 2002 she had a late-term surgical abortion, which left her suffering bouts of depression.

Ms Prowse became suspicious of her lover when she discovered powder in the bottom of a cup of tea the morning after she told him of the decision to keep her baby. She told police that she also found bits floating in a cup of coffee bought by Erin the following week near St Mary’s Hospital, and in a bottle of orange juice he gave her at work.

The drugs would have caused Bella Prowse to suffer a miscarriage. She refused the drinks, however, and gave birth to a healthy baby boy in the following September.

As we discussed earlier in our That's an Outrage! section, legalized abortion has put many women in danger. Perhaps no one knows this better than Bella Prowse. Not only was she nearly coerced into a miscarriage, but she acknowledged that her previous abortions were emotional devastating. Abortion isn't best for women, as demonstrated both through the procedure itself and the atmosphere that surrounds it.
