The Oklahoma State House and Senate passed a bill that would ban cloning in that state. It is now up to Governor Brad Henry to sign it into law. This bill is a full spectrum cloning ban. It prohibits the creation of human embryos through cloning for the purpose of harvesting their stem cells and prohibits reproductive cloning which would implant a cloned embryo into a woman's uterus.
Recently, the governor vetoed a wider bill banning embryonic stem cell research, which would have included a ban on stem cells derived from clones. The current bill narrows the ban to cloning only. Great start, Oklahoma!
