Yesterday Oklahoma Governor Brad Henry signed two pro-life bills into law.  The first bill bans abortion for the purposes of sex-selection (ie. abort a baby because it is a boy instead of a girl or vice versa).  The second bill institutes stringent abortion reporting requirements, so the state can better learn what is happening within Oklahoma abortion clinics.

Sex-selection abortion is a real problem, even in western countries, as the Sweden medical board recently approved the practice.

Oklahomans for Life director Tony Lauinger told Lifenews.com that he increased reporting requirements would help state officials understand the actual safety of abortions:

Lauinger says abortion advocates like to talk about how they want to make abortion "safe, legal and rare" and he tells LifeNews.com that the bill "is needed to measure the accuracy of that claim."

"Complications from abortion, especially, are seldom reported, and the extent of the damage abortion does to women's health is not known," he said.

These bills came on the heels of a ban on human cloning signed by Henry earlier this month.  Keep up the good work, Oklahoma!
