It has now been a few days since President Obama presented Sonia Sotomayor as his nominee for the Supreme Court. Yet there is still one question on everyone's minds: Where does she stand on abortion? The New York Times reports that journalists have been hounding White House Press Secretary for an answer to one of the biggest questions surrounding the Supreme Court. Here is an excerpt from the New York Times:

Gibbs was peppered with questions again today at the White House briefing. Anti-abortion groups are uneasy that Judge Sotomayor’s views on the issue are indiscernible, because she has issued no rulings on the point, or directly related to the constitutional grounds of a right to privacy that Roe is based on.

The questions then abounded for Mr. Gibbs, who would not reveal whether the issue came up, or was ever discussed, in Mr. Obama’s interview with Judge Sotomayor before he chose her as his nominee. Mr. Gibbs kept saying that the president never asked her the direct question, but asserted that Mr. Obama was “comfortable” with where she stood in a general way.

So what exactly does "comfortable" mean? Even if President Obama feels "comfortable" with Sotomayor on the court, she herself has never ruled on abortion, nor spoken directly on the matter. This is one issue that the American people deserve an answer on! Hopefully, her stance will be more fully explained in the Senate hearings, and the Susan B. Anthony List will be pressing your Senators to ask the hard questions.
