Planned Parenthood made their presence felt at the annual United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) last week, according C-FAM, via their new brochure: “Healthy, Happy and Hot”.

The brochure, subtitled “A Young Persons Guide to their Rights, Sexuality and Living with HIV”, was distributed at a panel hosted by The World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts and contains such controversial statements as “Play with yourself! Masturbation is a great way to find out more about your body and what you find sexually stimulating.”

Naturally, the brochure goes on to encourage getting support from family planning clinics to allow for access to “a safe abortion procedure.” But the most outrageous statement from the brochure is their declaration against the laws that say people who have HIV must inform their sexual partners about their HIV positive status before sex. These laws “violate the rights of people living with HIV by forcing them to disclose” according to the brochure. The rights of the sexual partner to know the risk they are taking is completely ignored.

The fact that the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts support the distribution of a Planned Parenthood brochure is not surprising as they also sent a representative to rally with other young people at the CSW in support of “sexual and reproductive rights” including the right that “Accessible, affordable and safe abortions should be made part of the minimum packages of sexual and reproductive health services.”

The CSW delved further into the realm of sexual and reproductive “health” in a UN Joint Statement put out by the UN Population Fund, UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), UN Children's Fund and the World Health Organization. Calling themselves the “UN Adolescent Girls Task Force” they put forth the priority of providing “life skills-based sexuality education, HIV prevention, and sexual and reproductive health.”

The UN Population Fund and UNESCO had already attempted to pull together international sexual education guidelines which proved so controversial (such as teaching five year -olds about masturbation) that the UN Population Fund backed out, according to the New York Times. “The guidelines suggest discussing “access to safe abortion and post-abortion care”… with those ages 12 to 15” reads the Times article. UNESCO decided to revise those guidelines but has continued to put out HIV, AIDS and sexual education material.

The UN’s relationship with Planned Parenthood and support of abortion are all a part of “Planned Parenthood’s insidious plan to work with UN agencies and girls’ organizations in order to profit from encouraging kids to be sexually active”, Wendy Wright, President of Concerned Women of America, informed C-FAM.

With even the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts, usually known for cookies and hiking, promoting abortion as a right, the situation is insidious indeed.

Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Henry Waxman said today that Democratic leaders are attempting to secure 216 votes for the Senate bill without doing anything to alter the abortion funding.

Planned Parenthood Celebrates New Abortion Super Clinic

The New Houston Planned Parenthood Abortion Clinic

The new Planned Parenthood abortion clinic opening in Houston will be greeted with fanfare by its supporters – a gala is planned for April 30th to wine and dine in celebration of the clinic, which will be specially outfitted to perform late-term abortions, according to CNSNews.com.

This gala seems to have fundraising as its goal, with the tickets going for $350 a person or a platinum table for 10 at $25,000. Planned Parenthood already receives $350 million federal dollars (which cannot be used for abortions, but is use, writes CNSNews, for “family planning”…) but apparently needs more cash to fund their latest and greatest clinic, which will be the largest in the Western Hemisphere, Jill Stanek writes.

UN: 100,000,000 women missing in Asia

   The United Nations Development Program (UNDP) has stated the obvious in a new report finding that millions of women are “disappearing” because of sex-selective abortions in developing countries in Asia.

   The report, entitled “Power, Voice, and Rights: A Turning Point for Gender Equality in Asia and the Pacific”, decries “gender inequality” in East Asia where it is estimated that there are 119 baby boys born for every 100 baby girls.

   Here are the report’s findings about abortion:

•   “Females cannot take survival for granted,” the report says on page 42. “Asia has the highest male-female sex ratio at birth in the world, with sex-selective abortion and infanticide leaving approximately 96 million missing women in seven countries. In most regions, women comprise 51% of the population, but only 49% in Asia-Pacific.”

•   “The problem of ‘missing girls’ – in which more boys are born than girls, as girl fetuses are presumably aborted, and women die from health and nutrition neglect – is actually growing,” a UNDP summary of the report says.

•   The summary continues, “China and India together account for more than 85 million of the nearly 100 million ‘missing’ women estimated to have died from discriminatory treatment in health care, nutrition access or pure neglect – or because they were never born in the first place.”

•   While the world average for the life expectancy of women is 1.06 years longer than that of men, Asia’s ratio of female-to-male life expectancy is below this average. “This discrepancy stems from a lifetime of gender discrimination, starting from the deliberate abortion of female fetuses.”

    The report goes even further, calling for “strict actions against sex-selective abortions…to balance the sex ratio at birth in many countries in the region, specifically those with alarmingly high male-over-female ratios at birth, such as China and India.” It calls for health professionals and the media to “act as watchdogs and influencers of attitudes” in countries where sex-selective abortions are illegal but the law is not effectively implemented. It also recommends that governments offer “incentives for girl children”.

   It baffles me that the UN is surprised at this when they spend so much time promoting abortion around the world. The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) is specifically dedicated to “reproductive health” and is actually involved in the one-child policy of China that causes the very gender inequality they condemn!

   The ignorance and hypocrisy of the UN is appalling. When will they wake up to the fact that abortion destroys lives and societies, causing many of the problems they try to fight?

Thousands Protest Spain’s Impending Pro-Choice Laws

Thousands of demonstrators have marched through Spanish cities to protest against a bill that will make it easier for women to seek an abortion.

In Madrid, families with young children carried banners, flags and balloons and chanted "No to abortion! Yes to life!".

The bill, already passed by parliament, introduces abortion on demand up to 14 weeks into a pregnancy. At present, a pregnancy can only be terminated in mainly Catholic Spain under specific circumstances. The new bill is due to come into force in July.

A Pastor’s Drive to End Abortion

Last year Dave Wilkinson asked God for guidance. He wanted to know what he could do to better fight abortion.

Wilkinson, an evangelical pastor, runs three Ventura County pregnancy clinics that encourage women to choose alternatives to the procedure. He believes the prevalence of abortion is the biggest test Christians face. "It's probably one of the things that American Christians are going to have to stand before God and answer for," Wilkinson said. "He will say, 'You, as Americans, what did you do to fight abortion?' "

Poll Shows American Agree: A Vote for Abortion Is NOT Representation

A new poll out from SBA List shows the American people agree: Abortion is not Healthcare!

The surveys asked registered voters about abortion funding and healthcare reform in the following members’ districts: Jason Altmire (PA-04), Paul Kanjorski (PA-11), Brad Ellsworth (IN-11), Baron Hill (IN-09), Steve Dreihaus (OH-01), Charlie Wilson (OH-06), Marcy Kaptur (OH-09), and John Boccieri (OH-16).

The results tell a clear, consistent story: Constituents represented by pro-life Democrats DO NOT want abortion funding in healthcare – and are much more likely to vote against there Representative next Election Day if he or she supports a healthcare bill with abortion funding.

At least three-in-five voters in these eight congressional districts agreed that “Abortion and abortion funding have no place in healthcare legislation.” Additionally, more than 70% of voters agreed in four of the districts surveyed (Ohio-06, Ohio-16, Indiana-08, and Indiana-09).

At least two-thirds of voters in each Congressional District opposed “using tax dollars to pay for abortions” and in all districts majorities “strongly opposed.” Furthermore, in three districts opposition reached 80% (Ohio-06, Ohio-16, and Indiana-08).

The pro-life majorities in Pennsylvania, Ohio and Indiana are reflected of the national trend. Americans do not want abortion in health care and are speaking out against it. Representatives beware, constituents are holding their representatives accountable: No federal funding for abortions – period!

Dozens of billboards have sprouted up over Atlanta tackling the hot-button issue of abortion, this time using a controversial method: race.

The billboards feature the cherubic face of a black baby and a bold statement in large block letters: "Black children are an endangered species."

The billboards direct people to a website called toomanyaborted.com, which says for African-Americans, abortion has become a crisis. Nearly 40% of all black pregnancies end in induced abortion, the website says, which is more than three times the rate of white women and two times the rate of all other races combined.

Meet Jane Norton

The Susan B. List Candidate Fund recently announced its endorsement of candidate Jane Norton, who is running for Senate in Colorado. Jane just released this campaign ad, showing off her pro-life street cred!

In 1999, as the top state health official in Colorado, Jane realized that state dollars were going to Planned Parenthood, whose use of the money to perform abortions violated at 1984 amendment to the Colorado state constitution. Jane single-handedly led the effort to bar state dollars from going to Planned Parenthood altogether. She was successful and Planned Parenthood in Colorado no longer receives any state funding.

Abortionist Breaks Silence

The Philadelphia abortionist who recently had his medical license suspended, Dr. Kermit Baron Gosnell, broke his silence yesterday, despite the recommendations from his lawyer.

Dr. Gosnell insists that he has done nothing wrong, though concedes that he has been a victim of "bad publicity" in the past. His practice was shut down after a women died from a botched abortion in his office, and dead babies in jars were found on display in his office. Among some of the bizarre statements he made to FOX29:

"If you're not making mistakes you're not really attempting to do something."

and...

"I try to give the same level of care I would want my daughter to receive."

Can you get any more deluded?

Nancy Pelosi Lies at Health Care Summit

At the 7-hour health care summit today, Minority Leader Boehner brought up the issue of taxpayer funded abortion. Boehner pointed out that since the creating of the Hyde amendment in 1977, the American people have not had to pay for abortions with their taxdollars, a reality that would change dramatically if the current health care reform legislation is passed!

Mintutes after Boehner had finished speaking, House Speaker and pro-abortion leader Nancy Pelosi said that Boehners words were "not factual."

Well, as the Weekly Standard's John McCormack aptly pointed out earlier this week, this is a lie!

President Obama's health care plan would use federal dollars to pay for abortions in at least three ways.

First, it contains Ben Nelson's so-called compromise amendment in which allows insurance plans purchased with federal subsidies to cover abortions. Nelson's amendment doesn't apply to the whole bill, so there are two other provisions that would allow direct federal funding of abortion.

The National Right to Life Committee notes that Obama's plan would provide $11 billion dollars for community health centers--$4 billion more than the original Senate bill--and there is no language preventing these funds from paying for abortions.

Third, the Senate bill allows for direct federal funding of abortions on Indian reservations.

All three of these measures were slipped into the Senate bill at the last minute in the manager's amendment. Ben Nelson admitted that the funding of abortions on Indian reservations was an oversight that would "have to be addressed in the conference." Except now there isn't going to be a conference--just a House vote on the Senate bill and some minor fiddling with the numbers through reconciliation with no significant changes to the abortion language.

Members of Congress liked to hide behind the fig leaf of Nelson's "segregation of funding" amendment to claim the bill banned abortion funding, but they can't make this claim regarding community health centers or Indian reservations.

Pro-Life Movement Saves One More Child

One mother in Vegas nearly lost it all.

It is a little known fact that some abortion procedures can actually be stopped midway, and the child's life can be saved. This was the case for young mother Jamie Stout who decided to get a late-term abortion. Because she was 20 weeks along the abortion would be a three day process. Luckily, this didn't discourage her friends, family, and local pro-life advocates from convincing her to change her mind on the issue.

Thanks to their help, Stout changed her mind about the abortion and decided to save her child's life. Local pro-life advocates found two doctors who were able to reverse the abortion procedure and keep the child, who they have named Claire. Even better, baby Claire is now only a month away from being born, and her mother couldn't be happier.

“I feel totally excited and completely blessed now, given a second chance,” Stout said. “It was a big wake-up call not only for me but for my family, where we stand with our belief with God, faith and when life begins.”

We couldn't agree more, Jamie.

Dead, Frozen Babies Found in Philadelphia Abortion Clinic

Philadelphia's CBS 3 is reporting that Dr. Kermit Gosnell, an abortionist in West Philadelphia is under investigation by state and federal authorities after a woman died following an abortion in his office. During a raid yesterday, police discovered more than two dozen frozen dead babies.

From CBS 3:

Sources tell Eyewitness News that the search came after a patient reportedly died following an abortion on November 20.

According to the State Board of Medicine, Dr. Gosnell had an unlicensed staff member conduct vaginal exams and administer medication.

In the November 20 case, the state claims the staff member administered Demerol, Promethazine and Diazepam to the female patient.

After the doctor arrived at the clinic, the patient was given more medication. After the doctor performed an abortion, the patient started to have an arrhythmia and later died, state officials said. Autopsy results are pending.

Sources also told Eyewitness News that during the search, investigators recovered more than two dozen fetuses stored in a freezer, some dating back 30 years.

The fetuses are now being analyzed to reveal if illegal late-term abortions may have been performed.

This certainly is not the first time Dr. Gosnell has come under legal scrutiny. In 1995, Dr. Gosnell got into trouble with the State Licensing Board for hiring non-certified employees who actually saw and treated patients.(Creative Minority Report, has more on Dr. Gosnells history of illegal abortion practices.)

This nightmare of a story begs the question..how can abortionists and the pro-abortion lobby claim to be on the side of women when women are dying all the time from botched abortions? Can you really claim to respect the dignity of women when you mutilate their bodies, kill them, and then keep their dead children as mementos?

I’m offended both as a pro-lifer and as an advocate for correct grammar, but I will limit my commentary to the former. It used to be that even supporters of Roe v. Wade conceded that abortion was a tragedy. Now, we are no longer merely told to accept abortion as a necessary evil: we are told to embrace it, cherish it, and “become a fan” of abortion.

Facebook, of course, is dominated by students. Abortionists have long targeted this age group. According to Feminists for Life, one out of every five abortions is performed on a college woman. At the same time, survey after survey is showing that the millennial generation is pro-life. I am disgusted by the idea that abortion businesses think that I might become a fan of the institution that has killed countless members of my generation, and subjected many others to post-abortion stress.

I am not suggesting that we should campaign to have Facebook censor the ad; doing so would make us little different from the anti-free-speech zealots who attempted to bring down the Tebow Super Bowl commercial. Nor can we stand by and do nothing while pro-abortion forces try to win back the pro-life generation. Instead, I propose that pro-life Facebook users be on the lookout for the ad and pledge $1 to a pro-life group each time they see it. A generous donor has agreed to match contributions to SecularProLife.org up to $500; gifts to your local CPC or campus organization would also be appropriate.

It’s easy to become discouraged by advertisements for abortion. Always remember our fans: the children whose lives have been saved, the mothers who have been provided with the resources they need to choose life, and the women who have found healing after an abortion through pro-life programs. They need us to stand up to the abortion industry. What will you do to help?

Pro-Life Coalition Sends Letters to President, GOP

As the Health Care Summit between President Obama and congressional leaders approaches, the Susan B. Anthony List, in coalition with 31 nation and statewide pro-life groups, sent President Obama a letter urging him to listen to the pro-life American majority. The health care debate has divided the country, but there has been one area of consistent bipartisan consensus: across all demographics, Americans do not want taxpayer-funded abortion in health care reform.

The same coalition also sent a letter to members of the Republican leadership who will be meeting with the President. Seventy two percent of Americans agree that taxpayer dollar should not be used to fund abortion on-demand. Stupak language must be added to any health care bill and we will work endlessly to support members of Congress who work for Life!

Team Canada Has Extra Player

Fun fact for all you pro-lifers who have been following the Olympics in Vancouver this week. The Canadian women's curling team is favored to win and has more than that to be excited about!

"As with all curling teams, Team Canada features five members. Well, six, if you really want to get technical with it," reports Chris Chase of Yahoo Sports News:

Alternate Kristie Moore, 30, is 5½ months pregnant, making her just the third athlete known to be with child during Olympic competition. Ninety years ago, Swedish figure skater Magda Julin won a gold medal at the Antwerp Games while in her first trimester and Germany’s Diana Sartor took fourth in the skeleton in 2006.

Though she is showing (as evidenced in the picture above), Moore says that her pregnancy has not affected her ability to deliver rocks ... yet. "[In] the eighth month or so, that might be an issue," she said.

Chase reports that Kristie's teammates were more than supportive when they found out she was pregnant. Though she may not have to play because she is an alternate, Kristie will still get a medal if the team wins.

Virginia: Pro-Choice License Plates a Victory for Pro-lifers

WTOP and Lifenews are reporting that today the Virginia state legislature passed a bill to create a pro-choice license plate. The license plate, which was advocated for by NARAL Pro-Choice Virginia and Planned Parenthood, is supposed to be the pro-choice counter to the yellow "Choose Life" license plates.

WTOP reports that the Virginia Senate voted to create the plates specifying that after the first 1,000 plates were sold, $15 from each $25 plate would go to Planned Parenthood.

Bummer, huh?

Actually no. Cue the pro-life majority of legislators in the Virginia State House.

"Delegate Todd Gilbert offered an amendment to the bill to change it so all funding would go to the Virginia Pregnant Women Support Fund -- a move that the pro-life Family Forum group describes as a devastating blow to Planned Parenthood.

"The Virginia Pregnant Women Support Fund was created in 2007 to “support women and families who are facing unplanned pregnancy” and is managed by the Virginia Board of Health. The goals are far different from Planned Parenthood's abortion agenda as it provides funding for ultrasound machines, parenting programs, and other support."

In response to his opposition, Gilbert said that the Virginia Pregnant Women Support Fund "was a better fit for the language of the plate."

"Planned Parenthood violates it's own message of trusting women.

"'Delegate Gilbert, citing Planned Parenthood’s opposition to pro-woman legislation including informed consent requirements that do exactly that – trust women – stated that plate funds if directed to Planned Parenthood would not be going to an organization in conformity with the plate’s message.'"

Gilbert’s amendment passed by a vote of 56-43, and the overall vote for the plates passed 77-22. Well, congratulations Virginia!

A message from Susan B. Anthony List President, Marjorie Dannenfelser:

Dear SBA List Friends,

That’s a lot of candles, Miss Anthony.

And today we have a lot to celebrate. One hundred ninety years ago today, Susan B. Anthony and a great human rights legacy was born. She and her movement pushed the doors of political life open for women. Our organization’s namesake, we celebrate that she also saw the connection between human rights of all people, consistently rejecting the notion that one person’s fundamental rights could come at the expense of another’s. She stood for the rights of every human being – especially the most vulnerable.

She was an abolitionist: property rights could not be built upon the broken backs of slaves. She believed in women’s rights: political power for women should be used as a hedge against abuse of women.

And she believed in the right to life of the unborn child: women’s rights could never be built upon the broken bodies of unborn children.

Not surprisingly, many women’s groups tend to leave that fact out. But it’s true!

Susan B. Anthony’s pro-life stance is evident in her writings. The proprietor and business manager of the early feminist newspaper The Revolution, Anthony published many articles under a simple pseudonym, “A.”

In an article entitled “Marriage & Maternity,” Anthony referred to abortion as “the horrible crime of child-murder,” and said that abortion would “burden [a woman’s] conscience in life, [and] it will burden her soul in death.”

Even at a time when her newspaper was in dire need of advertisers to prevent it from folding, the paper refused to place advertisements for abortionists masquerading as legitimate health providers.

She never sat on the sidelines, watching the great human rights battles of the day play out – come what may. She stepped up, never gave up and never lost hope. She died before the 19th Amendment guaranteeing women the right to vote passed. But she never stopped fighting for it.

This is the model my husband and I want for our children. When someone is being bullied, never stand idly by. When a stranger is hurt or in need, YOU be the one to step into the void and help. And when unborn children and their mothers are in crisis LOVE THEM BOTH. When almost 4,000 children per day die from abortion at the hands of an abortion industry that feeds on mothers who need and deserve better, NONE of us should stand by. We can all do something to rally our nation to the point where all children are protected in the law.

I know that if Susan B. Anthony were alive today, she would be overjoyed by the strength of the growing American pro-life majority.

It’s this brand of original, authentic pro-life feminism that resonates with today’s American woman. And it’s why the old guard of abortion-promoting feminists struggles to remain relevant.

In our increasingly pro-life culture, the ‘pro-choice’ label has worn out its usefulness. The modern feminist mantra calling for a taxpayer-funded abortion in every home flies in the face of Susan B. Anthony’s legacy of equal rights for all, born and unborn.

That’s why I’m so proud to have you on our team. The pro-life team that advances the true woman-centered approach to politics. The approach that honors the dignity of both mother and child.

With that vision, you and I are taking back lost ground for Life. And we are rolling back the culture of death that brought us here.

As we remember Susan B. Anthony on her birthday, I encourage you to celebrate her legacy:

-Urge the women in your life to follow in her footsteps by doing all they can to defend Life in the political process.

-Prayerfully consider whether you or any woman you know is called to public service.

-Contact your representative and senators in our online Action Center.

-Nominate a young woman who embodies the pro-life strength of Susan B. Anthony for our annual Young Leader Awar d. (Only 1 day left!)

Personhood in Colorado?

    Thanks to the efforts of thousands of dedicated pro-lifers, Personhood Colorado has collected and submitted enough signatures to put the Colorado Personhood Amendment up for a vote. Assuming enough signatures are verified by the state, the amendment will appear on the ballot for voters to decide in the November elections.

   The amendment would change the state constitution to apply the term “person” to “every human being from the beginning of the biological development of that human being.” Unborn children would thus get the same right to life that born persons enjoy, effectively outlawing abortion.

   Assuming the signatures are verified, the amendment will be placed on the ballot as an initiative for voters to approve or deny.

   Personhood Colorado led the campaign to gather the 76,047 signatures of registered voters required to get an initiative on the ballot. The organization submitted 79,817 signatures to the Colorado Secretary of State.

   Thousands of pro-life volunteers worked tirelessly for weeks, gathering signatures without pay. The campaign had no paid staff members.

    “We are thrilled with these results. These signatures represent thousands of hours of hard work,” remarked Gualberto Garcia-Jones, co-sponsor of the amendment. “All of our volunteers are 100% committed to seeing that the dignity and personhood of preborn babies is recognized in Colorado, and it shows.”

    As with any signature campaign to get a proposition on the ballot, some signatures will be deemed invalid because they are not from legally registered voters. Should 3,771 signatures be thrown out, putting the campaign below the 76,047 threshold, pro-lifers will have an additional 15 days to gather more signatures.

    Colorado had a similar amendment on the ballot in the 2008 election that was rejected. But pro-lifers certainly have not quit and have no intention of doing so.

    “Our grassroots, volunteer campaign will continue to be a success, because we are working towards a very worthy cause -- protecting the lives of innocent Colorado citizens,” Garcia-Jones said. “The 79,817 signatures are an indicator that the people of Colorado are determined to protect innocent life; we will not rest until every child is protected by love and by law.”

   Personhood movements are underway in several other states for the November election, including Florida, California, Montana, Mississippi, and Missouri.
